A Classmate Who Could Use Some Support

Regarding Ricky Ray:

Saw Rick yesterday and he seemed to be doing better. Delmar says that his leg is healing nicely. Not sure, with all his problems that he will ever be eligible for an artifical leg. His mental state was much better than I expected and he actually carried on a real conversation this time (first time in about a year that he actually made comments on his own, without prompting). He could sure use some of the guys going by to see him to talk sports, etc!

Ricky Ray Update

August 16, 2009 by garrardcounty

Just wanted to give everyone an update of Ricky Ray. I just got off the phone with Beverly who says that things are not going to well for Ricky.  Because his leg isn’t healing as it should, he is scheduled for surgery tomorrw (Monday) morning (8-17-2009) to remove a portion of his leg -six inches below the knee and down. He is a patient at Ephram McDowel Hospital in Danville.  His sister Phylis (Married to our former principal, Delmar Warren) is watching over him and has been caring for him while he has been in the Nursing Home. She asks that we begin sending Ricky cards of encouragment as well as asking that if any of his former classmates still live in the area, that we go by to visit him. As you might guess, this is a scary time as well as a trying time for Ricky.  Remember him in your prayers.

I’ll update the blog regarding his surgery and recovery as information is passed on to me.

A Note From Debbie Bandy Bryant

August 14, 2009 by garrardcounty

I suppose one we reach a certain age we think back on our youth. I have many fond memories at GCHS. They were probably the easiet years of most of our lives.

I retired from Verizon in December 2008, after 27 years with them. I am married to my soul mate. We have a four legged child named Dusty. I do not have any human children.

We love to travel. We have a timeshare in Bonaire that we go to every May to scuba dive. We bought a timeshare in St. Martin on our honeymoon 11 years ago. We spend many Thanksgivings there. We traveled to Egypt 2 years ago. We purchased an RV travel trailer in February and enjoy camping in it. Drove it to North Carolina in July.

My husband, Robrt Byant, tells everyone I am living the life of the idle rich. I do spend most afternoons in our pool reading Southern novels. We are not rich by any means. We have a very comfortable life. He is a systems project manager.

When anyone visits Ricky, please tell him I will visit next time I am in. I was in during July, however I was sick and did not want to carry my germs to him or others.

I am on Facebook as Debra Bryant. Please add me to your list of friends. Look forward to hearing what all of you have been doing for the past (ah) few years (lol).

Your classmate,
Debbie Bandy aka Debra Bryant

July 31, 2009 by garrardcounty
Everyone,  watch this old video taken at the Standard Oil on Lexington Street back in the 70’s.    Toni Garr, Jackson Eversole, Jerry Ballard, David Kincaid I recognize and maybe Bobby Durham at very end?

Do you have videos that include former classmates from the 1970’s? Send them to me and we will post them here.

1973 Classmates Need Your Prayers

May 24, 2009 by garrardcounty

Hey everybody,

Kay and I got a request from Rhonda to keep her in our prayers.  Please read
below from Rhonda about the report she got from her doctor.

Also, continue to keep Ricky Ray in your prayers as his struggles keep mounting.
He would love a visit from anyone however please call before going to the
Christian Care Center in Lancaster (#859-792-6844).  His sister has had to make
a decision to put him on a list to move him to a nursing home in Harrodsburg to
be closer to her.  Sheryl Hall Moody is in direct contact with Rick’s sister and
Phillip Stevens has also contacted her for updates.

Good news (and I’m a little late with this, is Mary Ann and Bobby’s son, Justin,
did not have to have any treatments.  He will need to be monitored for a while.
This was quite a scare for all of them.

I hope everyone else is doing well.

Love all of you,

Beverly Gifford

Just thought I’d give you an update.  I went for
> my 6 week f/u Wed. but I didn’t get the report I wanted
> to hear.  I’m still having some pain in that hip so
> the doc says it isn’t healing right.  My x-ray
> looked OK though.  He said I had a weird break and
> where the break is it could cut off my blood supply, and I
> could have aseptic necrosis (that bone dies).  If this
> happens I will have to have a total hip replacement.
>  We should know within 6 months if that happens.
>  He put me back on the walker 24/7 for 4 weeks and then
> I go see him again.  So please keep me in your prayers.
>  I’m not dealing with it real well right now, but I
> know God is in control.

Sheltered In His Arms

May 13, 2009 by garrardcounty

Good day mates!

I’m happy to report that my family and I are all safe after our recent tornado. The tornado took out two homes about 300 yards away from my house along with several others that were in its path.  In all twenty five homes were destroyed with an additional twentyfive that had some damage.  That was in Madison County.  Garrard County also had some damage.  If you want to see some pictures of the storm damage, I’ve posted some at www.thememorywriter.wordpress.com

 Also,

Lavenia is still off work, but recovering.  She has been having some difficulty with fluid on her lungs and we are still waiting to find out when the doctors plan to take care of the kidney stone issue.

In othe news…

From Sheryl – Just tried to call Rick, but no answer, so I called Phyllis. She said that he just got to go back to the Christian Care Center after spending 3 days in Danville Hospital. He has that broken arm (left, which is the hand that he uses) and that he has fallen again since then, tyring to get up and go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. Thinks he can do it, but is not supposed to be getting up by himself. Has multiple other problems: had a stent put in one leg while at UK to hopefully help his circulation, has a foot wound that won’t heal after the podiatrist cut his foot while trimming a bad calus, is taking Rx for kidney failure. It really isn’t sounding very good. Told her that some of us had thought of taking him out for a wheelchair ride and she thought that would be really nice. Has him on a waiting list for a nursing home in H.burg, so that they will be better able to watch over him. .

Lavenia Grant Recovering Nicely

April 10, 2009 by garrardcounty

Hello classmates, I’m sorry that I haven’t followed through with updating the blog regarding Lavenia’s health. My grandbaby takes so much of my free time that I don’t “blog” as often as I did. He just turned a year old yesterday and is so precious. I can’t give up the time with him to do all the extra’s I enjoy. I’m a true grami.

Anyway,  Lavenia is doing really well. Her surgery went fairly smoothly.  At first she was in a lot of pain as you might imagine. She’s had to make some major adjustments, like plenty of rest, not working or doing much of anything.

She goes to her kidney doctor sometime next week to discuss the plans  to get rid of the kidney stones.

Anyway,  she and Danny appreciate your concern and the cards they’ve received. You guys are great!
